AHST Endurance Stationed in Kodiak Prepared for Emergency Towing

The Anchor Handling Supply Tug (AHST) vessel Endurance, owned and operated by Paradigm Marine, a strategic partner with the Alaska Maritime Prevention & Response Network [Network], is now stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, ready to respond to emergency towing needs throughout Western Alaska. The Endurance is a 207-foot, ABS A1 Towing Service Ice Class vessel with 90 tons of bollard pull and has been recently certified by the U.S. Coast Guard in meeting Subchapter M requirements. The Endurance is also capable of supporting salvage operations, such as firefighting and vessel lightering.

This is exciting news as this brings another level of response capability for companies enrolled with the Network to help prevent the threat of a pollution incident. As part of the Network’s Alternative Planning Criteria (APC) program, we work closely with tug companies that operate within Alaska as a potential vessel of opportunity to assist vessels disabled and adrift. Having the Endurance on standby status for emergency response elevates our response readiness posture to assist our clients if their vessels need towing assistance to keep them safe.

Paradigm Marine provides comprehensive marine solutions in the areas of oil spill response, cargo transportation, salvage, and vessel towing throughout the Gulf of Alaska, the Alaska Peninsula, and the Aleutians. They own, operate, and maintain an array of specialty marine assets and heavy equipment, including spill response vessels, tugs, barges, cranes, and construction equipment.

The addition of the Endurance, along with the two dedicated, purpose-built oil spill response vessels operated by Paradigm Marine, along with our supporting Oil Spill Removal Organization – Alaska Chadux Corporation – provides our clients with the largest response capabilities in Western Alaska. The oil spill response vessel (OSRV) Ocean Liberty is based in Dutch Harbor, Alaska and the OSRV Sea Strike is based in Kodiak, Alaska.

Network Vessel Fees Remain the Same

The Alaska Maritime Prevention & Response Network’s [Network] Board of Directors, made up of maritime industry executives, approved to NOT increase fees for nontank vessels and tank vessels that participate in the Network’s Coast Guard approved Alternative Planning Criteria (APC) programs.

The Board of Directors is acutely aware of the financial pressures the maritime industry is experiencing. Our steady rates affirm the Network’s commitment to keep rates as low as possible while providing the best value proposition with the most comprehensive and cost-effective APC services throughout Alaska.
